BURLINGAME — Karen Sue Wessel died Saturday, July 18, 2020, at her home in Burlingame. She was 62.

She was born Dec. 5, 1957, in Emporia, the daughter of Ted and Una Prost.

She married Michael Wessel June 30, 1989, in Burlingame.

Karen found happiness in baking and cooking for anyone and everyone. She had a garden every year and would can anything and everything she could to give to her family and friends. You could also often find her sitting at her sewing machine working on whatever her project at the time was. Karen’s world was Mike, her children and her four grandsons. She was always willing to get down and crawl around on the floor to play or go outside with them. She had friends who had turned into family that she enjoyed daily talks with.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Steve Greeve and Larry Greeve; and two sisters, Thelma Knight and Melva Smith.

Karen is survived by three sons, Caleb Wessel and wife, Ariel, Topeka, Joshua Johnson, Platte City, Mo., and Justin Johnson and wife, Amanda, Dubuque, Iowa; two daughters, Chelsea Lowe and husband, Bryan, Georgetown, Texas, and Jessica Dye and husband, Travis, Platte City, Mo.; two sisters, Rosella Reece, Burlingame, and Valee Brown and husband, Steve, Osage City; and four grandchildren, Aiden, Declan, Wyatt and Beau.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 24, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Scranton. Inurnment will be at a later date in Burlingame Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church and sent in care of Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Ave., Lyndon, KS 66451.
