LAWRENCE—Lyndon’s top runners took on some of the states top competition at the Rim Rock Classic last weekend at the University of Kansas cross country campus north of Lawrence Saturday.
“They ran at Rim Rock as a team for the first time in school history,” said Juanita Spitzenberger, Lyndon cross country coach. “They sat a goal to be in the top 25 out of 35 teams in their race on Saturday. It turned out to be a good goal to have.”
The Lady Tigers finished 18th behind sophomore Maddie Montgomery, who ran in the top 25 for much of the girls’ varsity blue race and finished in 22:44.
“She ran a really good race again this year,” Spitzenberger said. “She got out and was able to finish in 50th overall against some great competition.”
Kaitlyn Moore also broke the top 100, finishing 90th in 23:33.
“Regan Martin also ran well this year and bettered her placing by 25,” Spitzenberger said.
The Tigers also competed Sept. 20 at Northern Heights in a rain-delayed event originally set for Sept. 15.
“The Lady Tigers did it for a third time in a row and placed first overall as a team,” Spitzenberger said.
Martin topped out Lyndon’s runners, placing sixth in 24:07. Moore was ninth in 24:47, Montgomery 12th in 25:43, Kaitlyn Pringle 14th in 26:17 and Grace Spencer 20th in 27:59.
The Lyndon JB boys ran Sept. 20 at Northern Heights and again in the West Franklin meet Sept. 22 at Pomona Lake. Ty Burton placed first in the two-mile run at Northern Heights in 12:55 and first in the 5K at West Franklin in 21:12. Race Fischer was third and seventh, respectively.
The Tigers compete at the Central Heights Sept. 29.
