WICHITA—Osage County athletes began competition in the two-day Kansas City Track and Field Championships this morning at Cessna Stadium in Wichita. The meet features the top 16 athletes in each of the state’s six classes, all competing in the same venue – the largest high school meet in the country.

Santa Fe Trail sophomore Hannah Honeyman began the day by medaling in the first event of the meet, placing seventh in the Class 4A girls’ 3200 meter run in 11:52.32.

SFTs Taylor Ball also medaled this morning, placing seventh in the discus at 111-10; and Daniel Courtwright placed 10th in the 4A boys’ triple jump at 41-4.

Suzanne Forbes earned the eighth and final qualifying time in the 400-meter-run preliminaries, earning a spot in the finals tomorrow afternoon. Angel Esparza finished shy of qualifying in the boys’ 200-meter dash, finishing in 24.5 seconds.

Class 3-2-1A events begin at 1:15 p.m. today.
