Area cyclists begin cross-country trek

-

David Saving, Lenexa, and Scott Averill, Overbrook, both 60 years of age and long-time friends, began biking across the United States today. They are achieving this bucket list challenge by riding their bikes over 3,500 miles across 12 states to raise awareness and funding for children’s education in 29 countries.

LeadaChild, a 501(c)(3) organization, has served to provide education for children for over 47 years. Saving and Averill will be departing Portland, Ore., and ride across the United States to Portland, Maine.

The goal of the ride is to raise $250,000 so children in countries around the world can receive ongoing education. Nearly $160,000 has already been pledged toward that goal.
