OVERBROOK—The Osage County Sheriff’s Office, Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers responded to a report of a body found Sunday afternoon at Pomona Lake.
“Upon further investigation and report of missing kayaker, it was determined that the body was that of Cynthia Steward, 44, of Ottawa,” said Laurie Dunn, Osage County Sheriff.
The body was found in Pomona Lake near the boat ramp at 110 Mile Recreation Area at Pomona Lake.
According to a report from the sheriff’s department, Steward had gone kayaking on March 28 at around 4:30 p.m. Her body discovered around 3:25 p.m. March 29.
The Osage County Sheriff’s Office was notified of the Steward’s missing person status around 5:15 p.m. March 29.
“At this time an autopsy is being conducted to determine the cause of death of Mrs. Steward,” Dunn said. “The autopsy will help determine whether Mrs. Steward had drown or possibly died of hypothermia.”
