Ladies open Flint Hills League Tournament

EMPORIA—Area girls’ teams began play in the Flint Hills League Tournament Monday at White Auditorium in Emporia.

The fourth-seeded Lyndon Lady Tigers began their tournament with a 45-34 win over West Franklin. Lyndon rallied around a 15-point night from Alexa Dorcas to repeat last week’s win.

Osage City opened play with a 56-23 loss to Council Grove in the first round. Tori Tomlinson led the Lady Indians’ effort with 13 points, added by an 8-point night from Kelsey Orender, who had a pair of threes.

Lyndon wrapped up regular season play in the FHL with a win and a loss last week, beating West Franklin 47-27 Jan. 13 and falling 54-32 to Council Grove Jan. 16. The Lady Tigers (6-3) will take on the Council Grove Lady Braves again in the FHL Tournament semifinals at 6 p.m. Thursday in Emporia. The winner will advance to the finals at 6 p.m. Saturday.

Osage City went 0-2 last week, with a 64-36 loss to Northern Heights and a 42-21 loss to Mission Valley. The Lady Indians (2-9) will looks to pick up some wins as they play two more games this week, beginning with the consolation semifinals of the FHL Tournament at 3 p.m. Jan. 22 in Emporia and final place games on Saturday.
