VASSAR—The Vassar community, the Lion’s Club, and people from surrounding areas came together Saturday for the Fun Fest. In addition to great food like homemade chili, there was a parade, horse and pony rides, a petting zoo and an antique car show.
Flag carriers Gentry May and Mathew Anshutz led the parade, followed by Grand Marshals Ben and Gladys Streeter. The Streeters were honored for their service to the community center in Vassar.
Parade participants ranged widely in age, and two of the youngest were Makinze Grittman, Berryton, and Alyssa Hogelin, Lyndon, both riding horses. Dan Williams, Melvern, brought a pig and a piglet, a bull, named Reason, and a heifer for the petting zoo. Dalton Hook, Lyndon, helped with the animals. Five horses provided rides for children. Gary McArdle, Topeka, was one of many classic car show participants, entering his 1970 Chevelle SS. He estimated there to be around 75 antique cars in the show.
