TOPEKA — Gary Dale Hawkins died Sunday, July 3, 2022, at his home in Topeka. He was 66.

He was born July 31, 1955, in Newton, the son of John and Betty (Gwin) Hawkins. He lived most of his life in the Topeka community, and graduated from Topeka High School in 1973.

Gary was united in marriage to Betsy Eissler Oct. 9, 1999, in Topeka.

He worked as a landscaper in Topeka for over 10 years, and then worked for Delta Designs as a painter for 15 years. After he retired, he made and sold custom-made knives and swords.

He had been a Boy Scout, played in the band and wrestled in high school. He loved fishing and travelling, built and drove race cars, and attended Our Savior Lutheran Church, Topeka.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, John and Betty; and a sister, Darlene.

He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Betsy; and his sister, Janice Docman, Merriam.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 23, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Topeka, with a luncheon to follow. Inurnment will be in the Vassar Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Gary Hawkins Memorial Fund and sent in care of Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Ave., Lyndon, KS 66451.
