CARBONDALE — W.L. “Red” Neu, Carbondale, died Saturday, March 26, 2022. He was 96.

He was born June 4, 1925, in Block, the son of Albert and Sophie (Groneman) Neu.

Red served his country in the United States Navy during World War II in the South Pacific, attaining the rank of Electronics Technicians Mate Third Class. Following his military service, he worked as a carpenter, electrician, plumber, in heating and cooling, and as a road maintainer for Dragoon Township for 20 years. He was also a cattleman, and loved his cows dearly.

He married Mary Lou Sturm, and they were blessed with four children, Treasa, Brenda, Reynold and Calvin. He married Joanne Dickson May 6, 1991, and to this union, one daughter, Samantha, was born.

Red was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Lou; his siblings, Wesley, Delton, Virgil and Dema; a son, Calvin; and a grandson, Ethan Neu.

He is survived by his wife, Joanne; his children, Teresa Oliver, Brenda Jellison, Reynold Neu and Samantha Hoffman (Tobin); and a sister-in-law, Donna Neu.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, at Prairie Center Cemetery, Burlingame.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Red Neu Memorial Fund and sent in care of Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, P.O. Box 194, Burlingame, KS 66413.
