TOPEKA — Kenneth William Sleichter Jr., Carbondale, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2022, at Stormont-Vail Hospital, Topeka. He was 83.

He was born May 31, 1938, in Abilene, the son of Kenneth and Esther (Davis) Sleichter Sr. He grew up in Abilene and the Greenwood community, near Pomona. graduated from Pomona High School in 1956, and served in the United States Navy from 1956 to 1959, having served on the USS Ticonderoga.

Kenny worked for Goodyear Tire Company for five years, then started work for BRB Contractors. He was a truck driver and then a heavy equipment operator. He became a manager and job superintendent until his retirement in 2003.

On June 2, 1957, Kenny was united in marriage to Bessie Pruett, in Ottawa. To this union two children were born, Rex and Joy. The family moved to Carbondale in 1965.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Esther; and a sister, Norma Newkirk.

Kenny is survived by his wife, Bessie, of 64 years; his two children, Rex Sleichter (Sandy), Carbondale, and Joy Brandenburg (Ferlan), Scranton; his sister, Carol DeMaranville, Pomona; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, at Feltner Funeral Chapel, Lyndon. Inurnment will be in the Carbondale Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Carbondale United Church of Christ and sent in care of Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Ave., Lyndon, KS 66451.
