OVERBROOK — Dorothy A. (Knoll) Beckmon, Overbrook, formerly of Carbondale, died Friday, Oct. 22, 2021, at Brookside Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Overbrook. She was 96.
She was born Nov. 5, 1924, in Rose, the daughter of Jacob Elmer and Dora Jane Knoll. She lived in the Carbondale community from 1976 until 2019, when she moved to Overbrook.
Dorothy was united in marriage to Melvin Beckmon Oct. 10, 1945, in Tulsa, Okla. They had six children, David, Donald, Phillip, Douglas, Joan and Deborah. She also has 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 23 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, her parents, three brothers, a sister, and two great-grandchildren.
Dorothy enjoyed sewing. She made quilts for her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed cooking for her family, and always made Sunday dinners until she was 90 years old. She loved to garden, and had several types of beautiful flowers and vegetables to share. She also enjoyed playing pitch with family and friends.
She worked in the nursery at Stormont -Vail Hospital for several years. In 1972, she went to work for the Office of Vital Statistics for the State of Kansas, where she retired in 1987. She was a fun and loving wife, mother, grandmother and aunt, and her presence will be missed by everyone.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 29, at Carbondale Church of Christian Fellowship. Burial will follow at Carbondale Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m., prior to the service.
