OSAGE CITY — Carol Nadine Baker, 80, longtime resident of Burlington, died Tuesday, July 13, 2021, at her home in Osage City.

She was born Aug. 5, 1940, on the Henry Hoch farm southwest of Burlington, to Leo Glen and Alvena (Hoch) Bradford. In 1946, the family moved into Burlington, where the children attended school. She graduated from high school in 1958.

Carol married Robert “Bob” Marion Baker, of Hartford, June 7, 1958. Their son, Russell Ray Baker, was born July 29, 1959, in Yates Center. Their daughter, Ronda Renee Baker, was born Sept. 5, 1967.

Carol worked on the election board under Margaret Hannen for 30 years, and also for American Greeting Cards for eight years. She loved to work with her hands, sewing and wood working, as well as fishing, gardening, and caring for houseplants. She enjoyed her morning coffee on the patio with her kids and her dogs, who were affectionately referred to as her “special kids.”

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, March 15, 2009; her sisters, Bonnie Paxson, Karen Wilson and Betty Bentley; and her baby brother, Larry Bradford.

Carol is survived by her children, Russell “Rusty” Ray Baker, Osage City, and Ronda Renee Gilbert (Randy), LeRoy; three grandchildren, Ryan Gilbert, Burlington, Shyann Bess (Mike), Burlington, and Bryan Gilbert, LeRoy; three great-granddaughters, Chloe and Faith Gilbert and Ally Bess; a nephew, Todd Wilson, Florida; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 22, at Jones Funeral Home, Burlington, with burial following at Big Creek Cemetery, southwest of Burlington. The family will meet with friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 21, at Jones Funeral Home.
