TOPEKA — Laura Elaine (Smith) Badger, 76, formerly of Scranton, died Friday, Oct. 23, 2020, at Healthcare Resort, Topeka.

She was born March 11, 1944, in Topeka, the daughter of Walter and Eleanor (Phelon) Smith.

Elaine, as she was known to all, had worked as a Registered Nurse in hospitals across Kansas. She was a member of Stormont-Vail Retired Nurses Association, Sunflower Lions Club, and Stull United Methodist Church, and she was a volunteer and then on the Board of Directors of the Schuyler Museum in Burlingame.

She was united in marriage to Tom Badger June 5, 1965, in Scranton.

Elaine was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Tracy Badger; and her parents, Walter and Eleanor.

She is survived by her husband, Tom, of 55 years; her son, Todd Badger, Stuart, Fla.; her daughter, Tara Phillips, Wichita; her brother, Walter “Tyke” Smith III (Glenna Jones), Scranton; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Elaine was cremated. A celebration of life will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 15, at the Stull United Methodist Church, 1596 E. 250 Road, Lecompton.
