TOPEKA — Lona Jean McIver, Topeka, died Sept. 10, 2020, at her home, surrounded by loved ones. She was 90.

She was born Aug. 31, 1930, in Turon, the daughter of Roy and Sylvia (Lamont) Tillery.

Lona proudly worked in food service the majority of her life. She loved talking on the phone, baking, canning, gardening, traveling, camping and spending winters in South Texas, Port Aransas. She was an active member of Boy Scouts of America and a proud military wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She also loved grocery shopping with her daughter, later in life.

Lona met Richard McIver at the rodeo, in Abbyville, and they were married Aug. 3, 1950. He preceded her in death on Oct. 1, 2011.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, John Tillery and Jerry Tillery; a sister, Delna Thiessen; and her parents, Roy and Silvia Tillery.

She is survived by three sons and a daughter, William McIver, Topeka, Nolan McIver, Council Grove, Roy Wayne McIver, Carbondale, and Tina McIver-Morrison, Topeka; a sister Ruth Bacon, Council Grove; 12 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, at Ridgeway Cemetery, Carbondale.

Memorial donations may be made to Kansas Palliative and Hospice Care and sent in care of Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, P.O. Box 268, Overbrook, KS 66524.
