OVERBROOK — Jean Branson, Overbrook, died Wednesday, May 20, 2020, at Brookside Retirement Community, Overbrook. She was 87.

She was born Jan. 11, 1933, in Battle Creek, Mich., the daughter of Edward Bassett and Lois Robb Bassett. Jean grew up in Battle Creek, Mich., graduating from high School there in 1951. She then moved to the Topeka area for work.

She married Delbert Branson Nov. 22, 1952, at Holton. They shared 53 years of loving marriage together until the death of Delbert in 2006.

Jean worked most of her life in many different roles at Brookside Retirement Community, at Overbrook. She loved her job and her many friends that she worked with over the years. Caring for people came natural to Jean and working at Brookside only showed that more.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Lois Bassett; a son, Charlie Branson; a sister, Marjorie Hanlan; and a brother, William Bassett.

Jean is survived by a son, Ralph Branson, Overbrook; six grandchildren, James Branson, Tennessee, Geneva Branson, Riley, Mahala Sowers, Overbrook, Charlie Branson, Overbrook, Barbara Sue Shannon, Wichita, and Georgie Marie Branson, Wichita; and several great-grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services will 11 a.m., Saturday, May 30, at Valley Brook Cemetery, Overbrook.
