On Monday, March 24, work will resume after the winter shutdown period for the roundabout project at the U.S. 75 and K-31/K-268 intersection in Osage County.
Work will continue on construction of the shoofly detour and the new pace and ride lot. Upon completion of this work, crews will pave the shoofly detour and then traffic will be shifted onto the shoofly detour so that construction work can begin on the new roundabout. The traffic shift onto the shoofly detour is tentatively scheduled for some time in late April or early May. We will send out advance notification under separate cover for the traffic switch onto the shoofly. Work will take place Monday-Saturday from daylight to dusk.
Drivers should expect minimal delays during the initial start-up of phase one as work will take place off the highway on the right of way. There may be some impacts as trucks enter and exit the project area.
Traffic will be directed through the project work zone via signage and cones. There will be a 12-foot lane width restriction in each direction through the project work zone once traffic is switched onto the shoofly detour. There will continue to be a 55 mph posted speed limit through the project work zone throughout the project duration.
The Kansas Department of Transportation urges all motorists to be alert, obey the warning signs, and “Give ‘Em a Brake!” when approaching and driving through the project work zone.
Smoky Hill, LLC, Salina, is the primary contractor on $2.541 million project. This project is now resuming work after winter shutdown for the 2013 construction season. The scheduled completion date for this project is early fall 2014, weather permitting.
