Gwen Spencer

Feb. 27, 1939 – Sept. 1, 2018

BURLINGTON — Gwen Spencer, Melvern, died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2018, at Coffey County Hospital, Burlington. She was 79.

She was born Feb. 27, 1939, at Bethesda, Md., the daughter of Harold and Carolyn Crum Duvall. She lived near Melvern since 1972, having lived in the Stull area before that.

She was a homemaker, worked for the H.G. Lee Company in Ottawa for several years, Casey's in Lyndon for 19 years and always helped on the family farm. She was a member of the Section Church of Christ in Osage City and E.H.U. at Stull.

The U.S Army Corps of Engineers at Pomona Lake announced Sept. 31 that Michigan Valley Swim Beach will be closed after receiving positive test results for blue-green algae.

Floyd Edwin Henderson

March 5, 1929 – Aug. 30, 2018

MAPLE HILL — Floyd Edwin Henderson entered his eternal reward Thursday, Aug. 30 at his home near Maple Hill. He was 89.

He was born March 5, 1929, at Wakarusa, the son of Sam and Hazel Thompson Henderson. He was raised on the family farm east of Auburn on Urish Road and attended school at Six Mile schoolhouse through eighth grade and graduated from Auburn Rural High School with the class of 1947.

He attended Auburn Presbyterian Church as a boy and came to faith in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at a young age.

MELVERN — The U.S Army Corps of Engineers at Melvern Lake announced that Coeur D’ Alene Park swim beach is open after receiving negative test results for blue-green algae this week.

Barbara Ann Anstaett

Aug. 11, 1946 – Aug. 29, 2018

OVERBROOK — Barbara Ann Anstaett, Lyndon, died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2018, at Brookside Retirement Community, Overbrook. She was 72.

She was born Aug. 11, 1946, at Wellington, the daughter of George and Myrtle Mohney Whaley. She lived most of her life in the Lyndon community.

She worked for the Osage County Treasurers office until her retirement.

She married Lewis Ogle. They later divorced. She married Jerry Anstaett Nov. 25, 1984, at Lyndon. He survives of the home.

Flossie H. Duffey

Sept. 21, 1912 – Aug. 28, 2018

MARENGO, Ill. — Flossie H. Duffey, formerly of Osage City, died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2018, at her daughters home near Marengo, Ill. She was 105.

She was born Sept. 21, 1912, at Council Grove, the daughter of Grover and Clara Wiggins Burnett.

She loved bowling, which she happily did until she was 95. She also enjoyed sewing and traveling. Her family was most important to her and she loved any time spent with them.

Bernice Arb Hobert

May 18, 1937 – Aug. 28, 2018

CLEARWATER — Berenice D. Arb Hobert went to her Heavenly home on Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2018. She was 81.

She was born May 18, 1937, at Melvern. She was the 10th of 15 children born to Earl E. and Mary A. Elliott Arb.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and seven brothers, Earl Dean, Orville, Eldon, Don, Larry, Warren and Francis Arb.
