Helen Louise Hendricks

June 3, 1930 - Aug. 1 2018

POTWIN - Helen Louise Hendricks, long-time resident of Potwin, died Aug. 1, 2018 from a brief illness, surrounded by her children and other family. She was 88.

She was born June 3, 1930, at Wichita, the daughter of Emil (Howard) and Florence Ruth Henderson. She attended Potwin High School.

She married Norris "Jim" Hendricks, June 10, 1947. They were married 61 years before Jim's death in 2008.

Intersection Closing for 14 Days

The City of Osage City has submitted the following announcement.
"The intersection of 4th & Ellinwood will be closed from Monday August 6th-Monday August 20th. Please use Safford Street for School access. Thank you!!"

Fire Danger Elevated to HIGH

The Osage County Emergency Management has elevated the fire danger for today, Friday, August 3, 2018, to HIGH. Today's forecast is: sunny; high near 96; south wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Betty Jean Standiferd

Nov. 6, 1923 – July 31, 2018

OSAGE CITY — Betty Jean Standiferd, Lebo, died Tuesday, July 31, 2018, at Osage Nursing Center, Osage City. She was 94.

She was born Nov. 6, 1923, at Lebo, the daughter of William Fred and Laura Myonette Rutledge Rosine. She attended the Sunny Knoll District No. 18 Country School through the eighth grade. She graduated from Lebo High School with the class of 1941.

Burlingame Bearcats are Rolling Up Their Sleeves for Burlingame Community Service Day

Do you have an odd job you need done? You do not have the manpower or ability to get the job done? Let BJSHS students help you out with getting the job checked off of your “to do list” and on to your “done list.” Best part is the labor is free.This fall BKSJS students will participate in an afternoon of community service projects. Applications are being accepted from local citizens for with projects they have around their homes.

Project requirements are you must supply all materials and supplies. The BJSHS will supply the labor. Projects must be able to be completed in an hour and a half. The location of the project must be within the immediate Burlingame area.

To submit your project for consideration, please email Chandra Dunbar at dunbar@usd454.net or Tammy Baird at tbaird@usd454.net. Please include your name, phone number, project location, type of project, how many people you are requesting in order to complete the project and any special skills that might be needed, like carpentry, painting, in order to complete the project.
All applications are due by Aug. 10 to be considered. Projects will be accepted in the order they are received and as manpower and ability permits.

Bruce Wayne Akins

April 24, 1950 – July 30, 2018

TOPEKA — Bruce Wayne Akins died July 30, 2018, at Midland Hospice House, Topeka. He was 68.

He was born April 24, 1950, at Ann Arbor, Mich., the son of Keith and Reeta Akins. He graduated from Shawnee Heights High School.

He served in the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Air Force. He worked for Allied-Signal, Phoenix, Ariz.; Payless ShoeSource, Topeka; and Flint Hills Construction, Topeka.

Kansas Wildlife, Park and Tourism Meeting

Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism’s (KDWPT) regulatory body will meet 1:30 p.m. Aug. 2 at Gyp Hills Guest Ranch, 3393 S.W. Woodward Rd., Medicine Lodge.
