Mary F. Miller Carlson

OSAGE CITY – Mary F. Miller Carlson, Osage City, died Monday, Nov. 12, 2018, at Brookside Retirement Community, Overbrook. She was 75.

She was born April 6, 1943, at Nyssa, Ore., the daughter of Patrick F. and Elenor Pyle Miller. She graduated from high school in Theodore, Ala., in 1961.

She married Charles R. Carlson April 22, 1962, at Osage City. He preceded her in death on Aug. 8, 2012. To this union two boys were born, Charles Kevin Carlson and Christopher K. Carlson.

Duane Robison

April 28, 1940 – Nov. 13, 2018

TOPEKA — Duane Robison, formerly of Lyndon, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2018, at Stormont-Vail Hospital, Topeka. He was 78.

He was born April 28, 1940, at Lawton, Okla., the son of T.B. and Cora Dell Pettijohn Robison. He grew up in Lawton, lived in Lyndon over 50 years and in Topeka for the last several months.

Bette Jean Hay Fowler

Dec. 12, 1934 - Nov. 10, 2018>/b>

WICHITA - Bette Jean Hay Fowler passed into eternity with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Nov. 10, 2018, at Wichita. She was 83.

She was born Dec. 12, 1934, at Arma, the daughter of Harold Peter and Ida Edith Iori Hay. Her older brother, William "Bill" Hay and younger brother, John Charles "Charley" Hay, also grew up in their Scottish - Italian home.

She attended Arma Public Schools through her high school graduation in 1952 and received her RN from Mount Carmel School of Nursing, May 1955, at Pittsburg.

Martha L. Betz Butel

March 18, 1929 – Nov. 11, 2018

OVERBROOK — Martha L. Betz Butel, Overbrook, died Nov. 11, 2018, at Brookside Retirement Community, Overbrook. She was 89.

She was born March 18, 1929, at Lebanon, the daughter of Perry Betz and Mary Spurlock Betz. She grew up in Glen Elder area working at her father’s weekly newspaper the “Glen Elder Sentinel.” She graduated from Beloit High School with the class of 1947 and went on to graduate from Kansas State University in 1951 with a bachelor’s degree in journalism.

Carrol Ramsey Niles Henderson

June 12, 1926 – Nov. 5, 2018

WICHITA - Carrol Ramsey Niles Henderson died Monday, Nov. 5, 2018, at Via Christi Hospital, Wichita. She was 92.

She was born June 12, 1926, at Ft. Scott, the daughter of Dr. Arch and Nellie Kelly Ramsey. She grew up in Uniontown and lived near Lyndon from 1950 to 2015, when she moved to Wichita.

She attended Ft. Scott Junior College and transferred to Kansas State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in general home economics in 1948.

Paul R. Smith Jr.

Died – Oct. 25, 2018

TOPEKA — Paul R. Smith Jr., Topeka, died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2018, at home. He was 85.

He was born at Hope, the son of Paul and Alice Didier Smith. After graduating from Osage City High School in 1951, he joined the U.S. Navy and served four years with a tour on USS Yorktown CV-10. After his naval service was complete, he worked for Federal Aviation Administration for 33 years. After retiring from civil service, he worked for Raytheon for 13 years.
