David Bruce Lieber

March 11, 1961 – April 14, 2018

MANHATTAN — David Bruce Lieber, Osage City, died Saturday, April 14, 2018, at Via Christi Hospital, Manhattan. He was 57.

He was born March 11, 1961, at Emporia, the son of William Dean and Joan S. Skonberg Lieber. He graduated from Osage City High School in 1979 and later attended Kansas State University.

He worked as a truck driver for several years before retiring to help his dad run the family farm.

He married Connie Murphy March 28, 1992. She survives. The couple had two children, Joshua and Kylie.

Leland Ray McMullen

May 6, 1949 - April 4, 2018

OSAGE CITY - Leland Ray McMullen died April 4, 2018, at his home in Osage City, after an illness consumed him the last few years of his life. He was 68.

He was born May 6, 1949, at Denison, the son of George W. McMullen Sr. and Bertha Morris McMullen.

He graduated from Denison High School in 1966, and worked on the family farm. Soon after graduation he started working for Hallmark Cards, Topeka, where he made a career as a warehouse specialist for 38 years, retiring in 2007.

Robert Pierson

Oct. 18, 1944 – April 12, 2018

OSAGE CITY — Robert "Bob" Pierson died Thursday, April 12, 2018, at Osage Nursing Manor, Osage City. He was 73.

He was born Oct. 18, 1944, at Omaha, Neb., the son of Alfred and Vera Gillette Pierson.

He grew up in Omaha, Neb., and attended schools there. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1963 to 1967, aboard the USS Newport News at Norfolk, VA. He worked for General Tire in Topeka and then for Plumbing by Carlson until his retirement in 2004.

He married Sharon Jean Kautz Sept. 11, 1965, at Elizabeth City, N.C. She survives.

Gerald “Shot” Harr

June 21, 1932 – April 9, 2018

BURLINGAME — Gerald “Shot” Harr, Burlingame, died Monday, April 9, 2018. He was 85.

He was born June 21, 1932, at Lebo, the son of Arthur R. and Eva Marie Murdock Harr. He attended Lebo High School and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War as a gunner’s mate.

He worked for the State of Kansas before purchasing the Fina gas station at Burlingame. He also owned and operated Harr’s Camper Sales and Service for many years.

He married Patty Whitmore May 26, 1956. She survives.

Julia Kay Downs

Nov. 3, 1959 – April 9, 2018

READING — Julia Kay Downs died Monday, April 9, 2018, at her home near Reading. She was 58.

She was born Nov. 3, 1959, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Emporia, the daughter of Glenn E. and Stephanie A Brezowski Craft. She attended Lebo High School and graduated with the class of 1977.

Following high school, she attended Emporia State University for a year before attending Rogers State University in Claremore, Okla., where she studied ranch management.

Anna Marie Knudsen Parker

Jan. 7, 1936 – April 6, 2018

WICHITA — Anna Marie Knudsen Parker died April 6, 2018. She was 82.

She was born Jan. 7, 1936, the daughter of Victor and Lucy Knudsen, Osborne.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dale; and a son, Clinton Bruce Parker.

Richard C. Peterson

Nov. 24, 1946 - April 4, 2018

EL PASO, Texas - Richard C. Peterson passed away peacefully April 4, 2018, at an El Paso, Texas hospital. He was71.

He was born Nov. 24, 1946, at Topeka, the son of Johnny and Margarette McFadden Peterson. He grew up on a farm in Burlingame, where he was a Boy Scout. He graduated in 1964, and served in the U.S. Army Reserves at Osage City.

He was a heavy equipment operator for many years and was currently self-employed in wire fabrication.

Ethel Ruth Watson

Sept. 15, 1917 – April 6, 2018

OSAGE CITY — Ethel Ruth Jackson Watson died Friday, April 6, 2018, at Osage Nursing Center, Osage City. She was 100.

She was born Sept. 15, 1917, at Emporia, the daughter of Lee and Ethel Jacob Jackson. She graduated from Reading High School.

She married Robert O. Watson March 24, 1940, at Osage City. He preceded her in death on Aug. 28, 1980.

She was a life long homemaker and mother.

Opal Louise Patton

Nov. 27, 1929 – March 29, 2018

OSAGE CITY — Opal Louise Head Patton died Thursday, March 29, 2018, at Vintage Park, Osage City. She was 88.

She was born Nov. 27, 1929, at home on a farm in rural Paxico, the daughter of Glen Bryan and Sara Augusta Ida Buchmeier Head.

She attended one-room rural schools near Wamego and Tulsa and Inola, Okla. She graduated from Wellsville High School in 1947.

Virginia Lee Sand

Jan. 22, 1936 – Match 29, 2018

OVERBROOK — Virginia “Ginny” Lee Sand died Thursday, March 29, 2018, at Brookside Retirement Community, Overbook. She was 82.

She was born Jan. 22, 1936, at Topeka, the daughter of Andrew and Hazel Coker Forbes. She lived most of her life on her family farm between the Lyndon and Overbrook communities.

After graduating from Lyndon High School in 1954, she attended Kansas State University to study elementary education. While there she met Gerald “Jerry” Sand.
