Harold W. Meneley

Aug. 5, 1923 – Feb. 2, 2018

OTTAWA — Harold W. Meneley, Quenemo, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2018, at Ottawa Retirement Village, Ottawa. He was 94.

He was born Aug. 5, 1923, Maxon, the son of J.C. and Eva Kimes Meneley. He lived most of his life in and around the Melvern and Quenemo communities. He graduated from Melvern High School.

He worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber, Topeka, until his retirement in 1983. He farmed the family farm near Melvern where he spent countless hours and loved so much. He was a member of the Quenemo Baptist Church.

Cecilia Crummey

Died – Feb. 1, 2018

LYNDON — Cecilia Crummey, Lyndon, lost her four-year battle with breast cancer Feb. 1, 2018. She was 76.

A funeral mass will be 10:30 a.m. Feb. 10 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Osage City. A rosary will be prayed at 10 a.m. prior to the mass.

David Frank Butler

Aug. 13, 1938 – Jan. 26, 2018

AUBURN — David Frank Butler, Auburn, formerly of Harveyville, died Jan. 26, 2018. He was 79.

He was born Aug. 13, 1938, at Harveyville, the son of J. Willis and Clyda Fouts Butler.

He married Irma Dryden April 17, 1964, at Topeka. She survives. They resided in Harveyville most of their married lives until moving to Auburn seven years ago.

He was a lifelong contractor in the concrete business in the surrounding towns and countryside. He and a partner, Chris Lister, owned their own concrete business for 23 years.

Garlena Grace Bartz Anstaett

Oct. 10, 1922 – Jan. 25, 2018

LYNDON — Garlena Grace Bartz Anstaett died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2018, after a brief illness. She was 95.

She was born Oct. 10, 1922, on the family farm north of Lyndon, the daughter of Walter and Grace Basel Bartz.

After graduating from Lyndon High School and attending Normal Training to obtain her teaching certificate, she taught from 1940 to 1946.

She married Roger E. Anstaett Dec. 18, 1942. He preceded her in death on Sept. 7, 2006.

Virgil L. Patrick

Died – Jan. 25, 2018

TOPEKA — Virgil L. Patrick, Burlingame, died peacefully in his sleep Thursday, Jan. 25, 2018, at McCrite Health Center, Topeka. He was 89.

He was born the son of Luther J. and Vergie V. Peterson Patrick. He lived his entire life in Burlingame and was a 1946 graduate of Burlingame High School. After high school, he worked 11 years for Santa Fe Railroad and later became a paint contractor. He retired in 1990.

Robert “Bob” Dale Lane

1936 – Jan. 23, 2018\b/>

COFFEYVILLE — Robert “Bob” Dale Lane, Tyro, died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2018, at Windsor Place, Coffeyville. He was 81.

He was better known as “Rocky” to those he went to high school with. He leaves behind a mountain of what he considered to be valuables and treasures. He loved garage sales and an avid auction goer.

William F. White Jr.

Feb. 7, 1946 – Jan. 20, 2018

TOPEKA — William F. White Jr., Osage City, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018, at Midland Care Hospice House, Topeka. He was 71. Family and friends lovingly surrounded him in the days prior to his death.

He was born Feb. 7, 1946, at Chanute, the son of William F. White Sr. and Marguerite F. White. After living in Emporia during his early childhood, he went to Osage City public schools and graduated from Osage City High School in 1965.

Gerald V. Wagoner

June 20, 1922 – Jan. 18, 2018

OVERBROOK — Gerald V. Wagoner, Scranton, formerly of Doniphan-Brown counties, died Thursday evening, Jan. 18, 2018, at Brookside Manor, Overbrook. He was 95.

He was born June 20, 1922, at Severance, one of three children born to Herman and Minnie Townley Wagoner. He grew up near Leona where he attended country school, later graduating from Leona High School with the class of 1940 prior to attending Highland Junior College.

Jacob Clinton Davies

Dec. 21, 1923 – Jan. 16, 2018

LEBO — Jacob Clinton Davies died Jan. 16, 2018. He was 94.

He was born Dec. 21, 1923, to Welsh parents Jacob and Olive Davies at Newman Hospital, Emporia. He was appreciative of his grandfather coming from Wales in the early 1880s to start the five-generation farm.

His grandfather was a Welsh immigrant settling in the area of Lyon and Osage counties. He spent his whole life as a farmer in the Welsh community of Arvonia township of Osage County just few miles away from Reading.

Michael Wayne Everhart

Died – Jan. 11, 2018

OSAGE CITY — Michael Wayne Everhart passed away at home Jan 11, 2018. He was 39.

He was born and raised in Ottawa. He lived there for part of his adult life.
