Virginia Lee Sand

Jan. 22, 1936 – Match 29, 2018

OVERBROOK — Virginia “Ginny” Lee Sand died Thursday, March 29, 2018, at Brookside Retirement Community, Overbook. She was 82.

She was born Jan. 22, 1936, at Topeka, the daughter of Andrew and Hazel Coker Forbes. She lived most of her life on her family farm between the Lyndon and Overbrook communities.

After graduating from Lyndon High School in 1954, she attended Kansas State University to study elementary education. While there she met Gerald “Jerry” Sand.

Zele Templeton

Died – March 24, 2018

VASSAR — Zele Templeton died unexpectedly at her home Saturday, March 24, 2018.

She was born in Buda, Texas, and lived in rural Manchacca, Texas, most of her early life. She was active in 4-H and was an avid horseman. She graduated in 1974 from Crockett High School, Austin, Texas.

She married Glenn Templeton Aug. 19, 1978, at her home in Manchacca, Texas. They relocated several times and settled in 1997 at Vassar.

William Priebe

Died March 26, 2018

OSAGE CITY — William "Bill" Priebe Jr. died Monday, March 26, 2018 at his home in Osage City. He was 97.

He was born at Vassar, the son of William and Minnie Ebel Priebe Sr. He was a life-long resident of Osage County, with the exception of his time in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

He married Audrey Bowman Jan. 10, 1942, at Vassar. She preceded him in death.

Bill and Audrey were owners of Priebe Grocery and Locker Plant in Vassar for over 30 years. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Vassar.

Mary L. Mellies Buchholz

Nov. 19, 1939 – March 26, 2018

OVERBROOK—Mary L. Mellies Buchholz died March 26, 2018, at Fields of Brookside, Overbrook. She was 78.

She was born Nov. 19, 1939, the daughter of Ernest Mellies, Sr. and Ethel Cyr Mellies.

She married James Buchholz Nov. 2, 1956, at Topeka. He preceded her in death on March 17, 2014.

They moved to Carbondale in 1959, where they continued to live. She started as a stay at home mom, serving as a Sunday School teacher, scout leader, 4-H leader and Carbondale City traffic judge.

Gary L. White

Jan. 31, 1947 – March 20, 2018

BURLINGAME — Gary L. White, Burlingame, died Thursday, March 20, 2018. He was 71.

He was born Jan. 31, 1947, at Colby, the son of Newlin and Bettie White. He grew up in Colby and graduated from Colby High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1967 to 1971 as a K-9 sentry dog handler during the Vietnam War.

He married Bonnie Bloom in 1972. They later divorced. They had two daughters, Jessie Ruth and Amanda Lynn.

Adolph “Sike” Anderson

March 23, 1915 – March 18, 2018

TOPEKA — Adolph “Sike” Anderson, Osage City, died March 18, 2018, at Stormont Vail Hospital, Topeka. He was 102.

Sike requested no services.

Nicholas "Nick" Jesus Aguirre

Sept. 13, 1937 ¬– March 9, 2018

MT. STERLING, KY — Nicholas "Nick" Jesus Aguirre, 80, of Mt. Sterling, died Friday, March 9, 2018. He was 80.

He was born Sept. 13, 1937, at Chicago Ill., to the late Inocente and Jesse Lira Aguirre.

He moved to Montgomery County from Kansas in 1981, was a graduate of St. Benedicts College and obtained his masters degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

Floyd David Drown

Feb. 9, 1948 – March 8, 2018

HENDERSON, Texas — Floyd David Drown, known by his family and friends as Dave, heard the voice of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, March 8, 2018, and passed from this life to his eternal home. He was 70.

He was born Feb. 9, 1948, at Mountain Home, Ark., the son of Floyd Drown and Rosie Dillard. The family later moved to Overbrook, where he attended high school and graduated in 1966.

James Dean Chapman

Nov. 20, 1953 – March 10, 2018

LYNDON — James “Jimbo” Dean Chapman, Lyndon, died Saturday, March 10, 2018, at his home. He was 64.

He was born Nov. 20, 1953, at Emporia, the son of William Clifford Chapman and Ida Mae Neblong.

David Alexander Gordeuk

Jan. 12, 1949 – March 3, 2018

HOBE SOUND, Fla. — David Alexander Gordeuk died March 3, 2018, at his home in Hobe Sound, Florida. He was 69.

He was born Jan. 12, 1949, at Bellefonte, Penn., the son of Stephen and Jenny Zernov Gordeuk.

He received his bachelor of science and master of education degrees at Penn State University and his Ph.D. in Theology from Trinity Theological Seminary.
